The Charter

Loyal to nobody. Loyal only to what can be verified.

Vozia (VOH-zee-ah — from voz, “voice”, in Portuguese and Spanish: every voice in one place) is a free, open news platform. It employs no journalists and does no original reporting. Instead, it gathers how the same story is being reported across the world — especially across Africa — checks it, and publishes one honest page per story.

We are not trying to be the fastest. We are trying to be the place where a reader can see all the facts available on every platform, in one place, with the source always referenced.

The five principles

01

Free for everyone

Reading Vozia costs nothing. No paywall, no subscription, no 'premium' truth. Accounts are free too, and reading never requires one.

02

Loyal to nobody

No owner, advertiser, government or party gets loyalty. We carry reports from every side — including sides we dislike — and mark what is actually proven.

03

Only what can be verified

We check claim by claim, not story by story. What is verified is labelled verified; what is disputed is shown disputed; what is unproven is never dressed as fact.

04

Africa in full, and the world

News from every part of Africa, and world news that touches African lives — politics, sport, business, technology, science and more.

05

Clean by design

No ads, no pop-ups, no clickbait, no half-told stories. A clean page, clean money, clean language, clean conversation.

How it works

When the same story is being reported differently, we do not pick a winner. We publish one page showing: Side A says · Side B says · Independently verified · Not yet verified — and we invite readers to give their take.

How we check, before we publish

Verification happens claim by claim. Evidence is ranked on a source ladder: primary evidence (official documents, direct video or audio, raw data) at the top; independent reputable reporting next; state and partisan media used only for that side's position, never as proof; social and anonymous posts never counted as proof on their own. Ten sites copying one agency report count as one source.

Every claim carries one of four labels: Verified Disputed Not yet verified False – Corrected — and a corrected claim keeps its correction visible. We do not edit silently; every story carries a timestamped update history.

Low-risk items — sports scores, official figures — may be published against the official source. High-risk items — war casualties, election results, accusations against a person, health claims — need primary evidence or two independent sources, plus a human check, before we publish. Stories can open as “Checking in progress” and grow as evidence earns it.

What Vozia is not

Not a site filled with ads. Not half-shared stories. Not politically influenced news. If a version cannot be verified, we say so on its face.

Money

Vozia is an open project, supported by donations. There are no ads, and monetisation is not a launch question. Money never buys a story, a position, or a silence. Support Vozia →

Later: independent journalists

In a future phase, independent journalists will be able to publish their own stories on Vozia — under the same charter, with the same claim labels. That phase has not started; at launch, Vozia publishes checked summaries only.

Accounts & updates

Readers can create a free account to follow categories and regions and receive news updates — when a followed story is published, updated or corrected. Accounts also anchor your take, so one person counts once. Reading stays free and open for everyone, with or without an account — an account is never a gate on reading. You can change what you follow at any time on My updates.

Built to be found

Vozia is built webpage-first: every story is its own page, with its own title, description and structured data, listed in our sitemap — so search engines can index and rank each story on its own.

This charter is a working document of an open project. The principles above come first, and they do not change.
