What happened
New England carried the first half and led eight minutes after it: Peyton Miller drove to the byline, Ilay Feingold flicked on, and Gazdag finished. Miami's pressure told in the 65th minute first — Matt Turner saved from Messi and Brooklyn Raines cleared Berterame's rebound off the line — before Berterame headed in Messi's assist four minutes later.
The winner, on 83 minutes, was Messi collecting a loose ball well outside the area, driving at the defence and finishing low into the bottom corner from Segovia's return pass, per MLS's report; New England's late apparent equaliser was overturned for offside, and Miami held second place.
Both sides, in their own words
Both sides heard. Neither believed for free. Publishing a side's version is not endorsing it — the claim checks below are where verdicts live.
Side A · Inter Miami CF
- A goal down away from home, Miami turned it in 14 minutes: Messi created the equaliser and scored the winner himself.
- Second place, a Champions Cup place clinched, and the league's top scorer in their side — with one match left to hold the No. 2 seed.
Side B · New England Revolution
- New England led through Gazdag, had a goal-line clearance and a season-high 54,112 crowd behind them — and still lost second place.
- Third place and one match left: the No. 2 seed is now Miami's to lose, but the playoffs still run through the East's top sides.
