UAE-backed mass wedding brings 250 Palestinian couples together on Gaza City's beachfront
A mass wedding for 250 Palestinian couples was held on Friday 6 November 2026 at the Maritime Club on Gaza City's beachfront, organised by the UAE's Operation Gallant Knight 3 under its Thawb Al-Farah (Garment of Joy) programme. The grooms were chosen by public lottery, and each couple received cash assistance and essential home supplies funded by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. It was the programme's third edition, after 54 couples in Khan Younis in December 2025 and 300 in Deir al-Balah in April 2026.

What happened
Many of the couples had postponed their weddings during the war because of displacement and cost. Brides wore white gowns and traditional Palestinian dress and grooms dark suits, some with keffiyeh scarves, in a ceremony with traditional music and dancing on the beachfront, yards from neighbourhoods reduced to rubble. One groom, Bahaa Mteir, said the couple had waited a long time for the day, "hoping that after pain there would be hope and joy."
Claim by claim
Why this label: The National's report, carried by ThisDay, Punch and other Nigerian papers, and the Associated Press's own video report of the ceremony agree on the number of couples, the day, the beachfront venue and the organising initiative.
On the ladder: a claim earns Verified from primary evidence, or from two independent sources that do not copy each other.
Why this label: The programme name, the lottery selection, the spokesperson's name and the Foundation's funding are carried in the same terms by the Viory agency report and by Sele Media Africa's account, both read in full.

Why this label: These are the operation's own figures, published by the Emirates News Agency and repeated in the wedding reports; they have not been independently checked.
On the ladder: the evidence so far sits low — early, single or social sources. We publish the claim as a claim, never as fact.
What we know / what we don't know yet
What we know
- The ceremony, its date, venue, organisers, the 250 couples and the lottery selection, from The National's and the AP's reporting.
What we don't know yet
- The size of the cash assistance each couple received — the reports say cash and home supplies were given but do not give an amount.
- The operation's overall aid totals are its own published figures and have not been independently checked.
Why it matters
In a territory where the same week's news is flooded tents and displacement camps, a wedding for 500 people is also a statement: the UAE is marking three years of its Gaza aid operation with a ceremony about ordinary life resuming, and the couples get money and household goods they could not have afforded alone.
