What happened

Matchday 8 in the Women's Super League split the title picture two ways: City went away to the league's surprise third-placed side and won, while Arsenal needed a late header just to take a point at home.

London City's part in the day nearly rewrote it — Fernández's 72nd-minute equaliser had them level with the leaders for two minutes before Hemp's winner restored the order at the top.

Both sides, in their own words

Both sides heard. Neither believed for free. Publishing a side's version is not endorsing it — the claim checks below are where verdicts live.

Side A · Manchester City Women

  • City won 2–1 away at third-placed London City and sit top of the WSL on 22 points after eight games (Reuters).
  • City's winner came two minutes after London City's equaliser — a title-race temperament Arsenal could not match at home.

Side B · Arsenal Women

  • Arsenal rescued a point late — Russo's 85th-minute header kept the Emirates draw and the title race in reach.
  • Arsenal played at home and dropped two points; City played the harder fixture, away at the third-placed side, and took all three.
