Mainz 1–2 Bayern Munich: Kimmich and Karl keep Bayern top on Neuer's record-breaking day

Bayern Munich won 2–1 at Mainz on Saturday 7 November 2026 to stay top of the Bundesliga, Joshua Kimmich scoring in the 14th minute and Lennart Karl in the 57th, both from Harry Kane assists, before Phillip Tietz headed a late consolation for Mainz. Manuel Neuer became the oldest player in Bayern's history on his 550th Bundesliga appearance, but his milestone afternoon ended early: he was injured as Mainz had an equaliser ruled out for offside shortly before the break and was replaced by Jonas Urbig.

What happened

Bayern arrived in Mainz after a Klassiker draw with Borussia Dortmund and a Champions League win over Atlético Madrid, and took control after an even start: Kimmich's opener was their first shot on target. Mainz's best moment came just before the break, when Lee's header was ruled out for offside and Neuer was hurt in the same passage. Karl's second settled it, and Tietz's stoppage-time header - Mainz's first shot on target - came too late to change anything.
