Men's 100m butterfly gold for Egypt at Dakar 2026 — 52.16 wins it by 1.87 seconds on day one

Egypt's swimmer won the men's 100m butterfly on the first day of competition at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, leading from start to finish: turning in 24.18 and touching in 52.16, a full 1.87 seconds clear of Serbia's Aleksej Kalanj (54.03), with Slovakia's Matiáš Krištof taking bronze in 54.71. World Aquatics' own day-one report and the event's results record agree on every time and placing. One thing they do not settle is the winner's name — reports give it differently — so this page carries the verified result and leaves the name out until the official Olympics.com results record settles it.

  • VerifiedThe men's 100m butterfly at Dakar 2026 was won by Egypt in 52.16 seconds on Sunday 1 November, day one of the Games: the winner led all the way, turning in 24.18 and finishing 1.87 seconds clear of Serbia's Aleksej Kalanj (54.03), with Slovakia's Matiáš Krištof third in 54.71. India's Tirthank Pegu was fourth (54.98) and the Philippines' Jamesray Mishael Ajido fifth (55.16).
  • VerifiedThe winner's own account, given to World Aquatics: it was a hard race, the road to the podium was long — four years ago he was far behind — built on daily work and 4 a.m. starts, and the emotion of the moment took him by surprise.
  • VerifiedThe race was one of five swimming golds decided on Dakar 2026's first day — alongside the women's 400m freestyle (Ecuador), the women's and men's 200m backstroke (Argentina and New Zealand) and the women's 100m butterfly (Russia, 59.81) — and the swimming programme runs until 6 November.
