What happened

James's homecomings used to be hostile — his first return with Miami in December 2010 is still his reference point for a bad reception, he said after this game. This one was the opposite: a 'Welcome Home LeBron!' board in the tunnel, fans in his old Cavaliers jerseys, and cheers at the introductions while his team-mates were booed. He checked out to applause with 3:54 left.

On the court, though, Cleveland controlled it: the win took the Cavaliers to 5–4 and avenged the opening-night collapse in Philadelphia. The teams meet once more this season, in Cleveland on 1 March.

Both sides, in their own words

Both sides heard. Neither believed for free. Publishing a side's version is not endorsing it — the claim checks below are where verdicts live.

Side A · Cleveland Cavaliers

  • Cleveland welcomed LeBron home, then beat his team by 24 — Mitchell and Mobley ran the game and the Cavs got their first NBA Cup win.
  • Holding James to eight points and snapping a 396-game double-figure streak in this building is a statement win, not just a Cup win.

Side B · Philadelphia 76ers

  • A five-game winning streak ended on a night when James shot 3-of-12 and Embiid went 0-of-9 — an off night, on the road, in a Cup game.
  • The welcome showed the city still loves James; the season series has one more game, in Cleveland on 1 March, to answer in.

Everton 3–1 Coventry City: Barry's five-minute brace turns it around and sends the Toffees fifth

Everton came from behind to beat Coventry City 3–1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday 6 November 2026 in the Premier League, Matchday 10. Yann Gboho put Coventry ahead in the 52nd minute with his first goal for the club, but Thierno Barry headed an equaliser from Vitaliy Mykolenko's cross four minutes later and bundled in a second in the 61st minute, before setting up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the third in the 81st. • VerifiedCoventry had two penalty appeals checked and not given: James Tarkowski's tangle with Caleb Yirenkyi, in which he appeared to pull the midfielder's hair with the score goalless, drew no action from VAR; and Vitalii Mykolenko's challenge on Taiwo Awoniyi was ruled to have been made fractionally outside the box. Barry's second goal also stood despite suggestions the ball had brushed his arm before crossing the line.

Galatasaray: Victor Osimhen to have knee surgery on Saturday — expected to miss Nigeria's AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania

Galatasaray announced on Friday 6 November 2026 that Victor Osimhen will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Saturday 7 November. In the club's own medical statement, Osimhen sustained a strain in his left knee in the Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart, MRI examinations detected a loose body in the knee, the operation will be performed at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by club doctor Yener İnce, and he has been removed from the squad for Saturday's league match against Amed S.F. Galatasaray gave no recovery timeline. Nigerian reports expect the surgery to rule him out of Nigeria's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania — in Uyo on 13 November and the return on 17 November — but neither the club nor the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed his absence from those qualifiers, and that expectation is carried here as not yet verified.
