France opens attempted-murder probe after petrol-bomb attack amid Europe-wide protest unrest
Paris prosecutors have opened an attempted-murder investigation after explosive devices were thrown at about 15 gendarmes and police officers at Porte de Charenton and AFP images showed one gendarme engulfed in flames. The prosecutor's office says reported injuries include second-degree burns and that no suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident. The escalation came at the end of France's third straight weekend of cost-of-living protests, for which the Interior Ministry's updated arrest figure is 779, while Germany's youth-led protests also turned violent and its ministers promised severe penalties.
