What happened

Villa's perfect start lasted seven minutes. A misplaced pass across their own area fell to Yamal, who curled in the opener — and, with it, a place in the record book as the competition's highest-scoring teenager. Villa pushed back before half-time and missed the chances to level a game that was still alive at the break.

The second half settled it quickly. Fermín López slipped Raphinha in for the second in the 52nd minute — the shot deflecting off Pau Torres — and Cancelo's run and cross gave the captain his second twelve minutes later. Villa, and their manager Unai Emery on his 55th birthday, had no way back.

Both sides, in their own words

Both sides heard. Neither believed for free. Publishing a side's version is not endorsing it — the claim checks below are where verdicts live.

  • A perfect start that lasted three matchdays ended at Camp Nou: a gift of an opener inside seven minutes, then two second-half goals as the game ran away from them.
  • Villa had first-half chances to level — and were made to pay for missing them after the break.

Side B · Barcelona

  • A record-breaking teenager opened it and the captain closed it: Yamal's 14th Champions League goal, then a Raphinha double.
  • Nine points from four and a first Champions League clean sheet in 18 matches — Barça are among the frontrunners again.
